Some of us certainly spend a lot of time sat at a desk so we should do our best to make it a nice place. I don’t know about you, but I want my desk to be tidy and well organized otherwise I get nervous. A bit of mess is welcome but it has to be a “creative mess”, where I can find everything I need in a few seconds. Ok, I think I have a very personal idea of mess!
Time ago I wrote a post for Revamped Magazine about the must-have objects every woman needs on her desk and the objects she doesn’t need (a huge bottle of Chanel N° 5, for example). Because socials can easily inspire us (those chic offices with white furniture, fresh flowers and a great view, need I say more?), but at the same time they show very impractical and unreal desks and office corners. Well, socials mostly show unreal things and lives, even if sometimes we forget about it.
So my real desk must-haves are:
- a glass of water (the bigger, the better) because you must stay hydrated and when you spend hours sat at your desk you can easily forget to drink, so the glass works as a reminder.
- a notebook (plus Post-its)
- a pen holder with pens, pencils and a highlighter
- cables for my smartphone and other devices
- a small plant, like a succulent but now I have primulas because I like them so much even they need more care than cacti.
Sometimes I keep a small USB Himalayan salt lamp on my desk because I like it and I read that this type of lamps absorb extra moisture in the air and purify it. But computers, fax machines and printers also dry air and, most of all, our skin, so instead of a tool that absorbs humidity some of you may need a humidifier, instead. Or a facial mist always handy.
Working from home requires a less accessorized desk. You don’t need objects like a facial mist, a plate for your watch and your jewelry, a snack and so on, because going to spray some water on your face and taking a break for a (possibly healthy) snack is something you should do also to stretch your legs. And wearing a watch at home is quite nonsense, for me, unless you never take it off so no plate needed.
If you don’t work at home you may want your desk to be as “yours” as possible. So, if you have enough room, you may want to be surrounded by photos, some personal objects, maybe a scented candle. But don’t overdo, a desk must look professional. It’s ok to have some cute and funny objects but I think some people overdo.
These are some beautiful and useful accessories for your desk. Sometimes, the unnecessary is necessary so I also chose something that is not particularly useful but hey, those cards are so beautiful you may want to use them. They’ll add for sure a touch of style at your desk.
