So far it’s been a good weekend for the rights of European women. The 8th amendment of the Irish Constitution is going to be repealed and Sweden passed the law that recognizes sex without consent as rape. I know it’s incredibile this is happening only now, but it wasn’t even granted this would have happened. So, I thought this Bella Freud t-shirt would have been perfect for the Fashion Crush of the week.
Suffragette City t-shirt is dedicated to Dame Millicent Fawcett, a British feminist activist. Her statue, unveiled last April, is the first one dedicated to a woman that stands in Parliament Square in London. One hundred years ago, some women could legally vote in United Kingdom, also thanks to Dame Millicent Fawcett.
Bella Freud collaborated with artist Gillian Wearing to celebrate this passionate fighter for women’s rights and the result is this pretty tee. The proceeds will go to Fawcett Society, an organization I’d volunteer for if I lived in UK.
The statue of Fawcett reminds us a beautiful truth.
Finally. The first statue of a women in Parliament Square was unveiled today. Suffragist, Millicent Fawcett, campaigned for women’s right to vote during the early 20th Century and is seen as one of the most influential feminists of the past 100 years. The statue, which joins ten others, all of men, was also the first to be designed by a woman, Turner Prize-winning artist Gillian Wearing. #millicentfawcett #parliamentsquare #gillianwearing @ccriadoperez #suffragettes Image: @bazaaruk
