Kitten heels are something I would enthusiastically add to my shoe closet, if I were able to walk in them. I don’t know about you, but they are pretty tricky to me, I can’t walk well in low, slender heels. I feel (and I probably look) clumsy. But I’d love to be able to gracefully walk in them.
Kitten heels are undeniably feminine and classy. After all, they were introduced in the ’50s, when everything was oh so chic and the it girls of the time were nothing less than Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor. Did you know that, according to some polls, the Fifties are men’s favorite decade when it comes to female fashion? I guess because women used to dress in a very feminine way, unisex was something unconceivable and there was no emancipation.
I admit that when kitten heels started to make a comeback, a couple of seasons ago, I was a bit skeptical. Of course we are used to see designers’ attempts, not always successful, to revamp trends from the past, so the rentrée of kitten heels was pretty predictable. And way better than the return of square-toed shoes, that’s scary! So when Dior, Balenciaga and Prada put kitten heels at the feet of the models for the s/s 2017 collections, it was clear they were definitely back, who knows for how long.
Anyway, kitten heels provide some extra inches (they are not lower than 2,5cm/1 inch and not higher than 5cm/2 inches) without being too impractical and unhealthy (high heels and wedges are, we all know that by now). They are the perfect shoes to wear all day long and more. From the office to the restaurant, from the restaurant to the club. Wherever you will go, kitten heels will easily make you look put together. As a big denim lover, I think they look great with skinny jeans and pants but they’re so perfect with knee length or mini skirts and dresses.
