Among all the photos published during this pandemic so far, this picture of Meghan and Harry has become my favorite one. I saw it few days ago and I thought “the world is a mess and she looks so cheerful”. The couple, who recently moved to Los Angeles, decided to volunteer with Project Angel Food, a charity that delivers healthy meals to needy people of L.A. since 1989.
According to the press and the usual loose-lipped insiders, Meghan and Harry only leave their house to volunteer, spending the rest of their time at home, with their son Archie. Like many of us, they try to act cautiously and stay safe. It seems that even if they’re worried about this global tragedy, they are positive about their future and excited for this new chapter of their life. After all, they are in love, they are rich, and they are free.
Meghan, wearing a t-shirt, sweatpants, and sneakers (and a Project Angel Food cap) hold Harry’s hand. He looks more serious and, while Meghan wears a PPE mask, he just wears a bandana to cover his nose and mouth. They look like two celebrities taking a stroll or going out to buy food and goods, like the many photographed by paparazzi during these surreal weeks.
Despite the pandemic, I guess Meghan (is she going to be called Markle again? Or is she Meghan Sussex, now? Or Meghan Windsor?) has all the reasons to be happy. I read that the last time the couple went to London to attend public events, Harry confided (to the usual loose-lipped friends/collaborators) that what Meghan wants, Meghan gets.
How can you look feel resentment against a woman (who you don’t even know) who got what she wanted without hurting anybody? Some would say she hurt the Queen’s feelings, William’s feelings and so on. But what about her feelings? She’s been attacked so many times, no matter what. Probably, after all, she decided to play a role, the most challenging role of her life, the role of a woman who bent to a world that wasn’t hers and that, maybe, she didn’t even want.
“Love is selfishness in two”. I recently read these words by Stanilas Jean Boufflers and I pretty much agree with this statement. I find the idea of love being selfish fascinating.
That’s another thing I thought looking at this photo. The world is a mess and these two people feel the future looks great.
