When mules were very popular, about 10 years ago, I looked at them thinking that I would have never wore them. I used to love wedges, instead.
I had a few pair of wedges, and my favorite one was by Fiorucci. Those were some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had, in fact I wore them until I could, that is to said until they got ruined. All good things come to an end, it’s so true!
Now, I don’t find wedges comfortable, anymore. Wearing them make me feel like… a tightrope walker! 😕 I even tried to write a post about wedges but finding beautiful ones turned out to be quite difficult, because I saw just 2-3 cute pair, not enough for an entire post.
Meanwhile I kind of changed my mind about mules, and I’d like to have a pair, with low heels. Maybe. Because I can’t help… I find some mules unflattering. High-heeled mules are gorgeous, they look like Barbie’s shoes but I think I could walk with them only for 5 minutes, maybe less, before losing one of them on my way. Not a very stylish thing to do. Flat mules remind me of the slippers my grandmothers used to wear. Maybe mid heels are a good compromise.
I just read the popular column “R.S.V.P.” run by Alberto Zanoletti on Elle Italia. Answering to a reader’s question, he stated that “at this point, in fashion, the line between bad and good taste is more and more subtle, sometimes non existent”. It’s so true. Was good taste sacrificed in the name of visibility and (fake) extravagance? I think so.
When it comes to shoes, I still think they’re one of the most important parts of an outfit.
I will never understand those looks which are so well put together from head to ankles and then you see a great skirt, a lovely frock and elegant pants worn with rubber slides and heavy slip-on. Some think it’s edgy, I just find it tasteless and sloppy.
Since mules are popular again, I decided to dedicate a post to them and I chose some cute and interesting ones. I think none of them look like granny’s slippers!
So, do you like mules or are you a bit wavering about them, like me?
