How beautiful and dreamy is Lana Del Rey’s “Doin’ Time”? It’s a cover of Sublime’s 1997 song and Del Rey (which I usually call “my beloved Lana”) recorded for the documentary “Sublime”, about the Californian band, which the singer deeply loves (I read she listens to their music every day).
Even if this song is about a cheating girlfriend who “spreads her lovin’ all over / And when she gets home there’s none left for me”, the incipit is so sweet. I love the words “Summertime, and the living’s easy”.
Some say that Lana Del Rey is not a great singer because of her small vocal range, I heard about this (one again) yesterday, at the radio. I fell in love with her voice at the first listening of “Video Games” (as many people, I guess) and when I listened to “Born To Die” I thought she was so different, with her sweet, mesmerizing voice, which I prefer to that of most of the female singers with the vocal range of an opera singer. Lana is unique.
